Assomption-de-la-Sainte-Vierge

History

The current church building was erected in 1819-1820 by master masons Jean-Baptiste Boutonne (dit Larochelle) and André Auclair, with twin bell towers completed by 1824. Between 1863 and 1864 the church was significantly enlarged by architect Victor Bourgeau, who widened the nave and designed a new neoclassical facade. A covered passageway linking the church to the sacristy was added in 1900, and the building was restored in 1959, 1998-1999 and 2002-2003. It was designated a protected heritage property by the City of L'Assomption in 1996.
