Historique
Le Gesù was established by the Jesuits as the academic hall of Collège Sainte-Marie, opening on July 10, 1865. The chapel beneath the hall served as the college's place of worship from 1848 to 1969. The venue shifted toward public theatrical programming starting in 1923, underwent major renovations in 1945 and again in 1992, and was classified as a historic monument by Quebec's Ministry of Culture in 1975.
